BAFS Membership

Member Benefits

BAFS welcomes applications for Membership from professionals with qualifications in medicine, science, or the law who have contributed, or are likely to contribute, to the application and practice of the Forensic Sciences. Applicants from within these disciplines who are interested, but lack experience, may be offered Associate Membership. The Academy also appoints Honorary Members and has a category for student or trainee membership at a reduced annual fee.

Full Member

Benefits

Full members are persons who by reason of their professional standing or special knowledge and integrity have contributed or are likely to contribute to the advancement, application and practice of forensic science / medicine.

Associate Member

Benefits

Associate Members are persons qualified in Medicine, Science or the Law whose professional experience does not meet the criteria for election to full membership, or persons not qualified in one of the disciplines but engaged in a directly related activity.

Student Member

Benefits

We welcome young members who are engaged in an appropriate academic or professional programme of education or training.  You will have the opportunity to engage with professionals and to promote BAFS to other student/trainee groups.

BAFS Events

We publicise dates of events as far in advance as possible via the webarticle as well as Twitter and via email circulations. Some of our regular events are: Lund Lecture; Ormrod Lecture; ‘Stevenson’ Meeting; Friends Dinner; Gordon Museum talks

MSL Journal

Medicine, Science and the Law is the official journal of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences and was first published in 1960. Currently the journal is published under the RSM Journals banner by SAGE.  Please contact SAGE publishing regarding the journal.

Education and Prizes

The Academy has a long-established role in Education and Training via its journal, Medicine, Science and the Law and annual programme of events, notably the Friends’ Dinner and the Ormrod and Lund lectures.
